Além  da casa, restou de pé sobre o terreno(5.000m2) de minha mãe em Nova Friburgo um único e velho abacateiro. A tromba d'água que desabou sobre a região serrana do Rio de Janeiro deixou muitas cicatrizes. 

A primeira coisa que fiz ao chegar foi improvisar um comedouro. Um pedaço de tábua, pregos, martelo e arame bastaram para concretizar o que eu queria. Simplicidade. É isso ai. Em cinco minutos o comedouro  estava pronto e instalado. Sobre a madeira, duas metades de um mamão maduro e algumas bananas. Nenhum pássaro apareceu naquele dia. No dia seguinte, embora pousassem na árvore, não ousavam investir sobre a comida. Tudo era uma questão de tempo e paciência. Quando o terceiro dia amanheceu, uma dupla de sabiás do campo pousou no galho e em seguida no comedouro. Pareciam ter sido enviados como batedores para averiguar a situação, pois ficaram pouco tempo e bateram asas na direção de onde vieram. Trinta segundos depois estavam de volta e, desta vez, com mais quatro de sua espécie. Foi a senha para que os demais seres alados finalmente se aproximassem. Click!!!

Beyond the house, left standing on the ground (5.000m2) of my mother in Nova Friburgo a single old avocado. The waterspout collapsed on the mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro has left many scars.

The first thing I did upon arriving was improvising one feeder. A piece of board, nails, hammer and wire sufficed to achieve what I wanted. Simplicity. That's it. In five minutes the manger was ready and installed. On wood, two halves of a ripe papaya and some bananas. No bird showed up that day. The next day, although landed in the tree, they dared not to invest on the food. It was a matter of time and patience. When the third day dawned, a pair of Chalk-browed Mockingbirds landed on the branch and then at the feeder. They appeared to have been sent as scouts to investigate the situation, because they were short time and beat wings in the direction they came from. Thirty seconds later they were back and this time, with four of its kind. It was the password to the other winged creatures finally approached. Click !!!

As consequências de uma queda sofrida por minha mãe tem me obrigado a ir com mais frequência a cidade de Nova Friburgo. Sempre que dirijo pela serra fico atento a lugares que me parecem adequados à ocorrência de passaros. Já havia observado um local situado  mais ou menos a meio da serra, onde uma alvenaria abandonada serve de marco para uma estrada de terra cujo destino final ainda é uma incógnita para mim. No dia 13 de agosto parei ali pela primeira vez e pude constatar que o lugar promete. Não gastei mais do que dez minutos para fazer essas fotos. Vamos ver o que encontrarei quando fizer uma exploração mais demorada. Click!!!

The consequences of a fall suffered by my mother has me bound to go more often the city of Nova Friburgo. Whenever I drive through the mountains I'm aware of places that seem suitable to the occurrence of birds.I had observed a place located roughly in the middle of the mountain, where an abandoned brick serves as a milestone for a dirt road whose final destination is still unknown to me. On August 13 stopped for the first time there and I could see that the place promises. I did not spend more than ten minutes to make these photos. Uma vez arrumadas as bagagens na caçamba da camionete, dei partida no motor e seguimos pelo leve aclive pavimentado que desemboca no trecho de terra, onde orquídeas bambu, ao sabor do vento, parecem acenar aos que chegam ou partem. No ipod, o violoncelo de Yo-Yo Ma harmonizava com a natureza, na interpretação de "The Swan from Carnival of the Animals. Antes de virarmos à direita para a reta final que nos deixaria na BR 101, um bando misto pousou na margem da estrada. Parei a pickup e, ao som daquela música magnífica, ainda pude fotografar essas duas espécies. Até breve. Click!!!

Once stowed luggage in the back of the van, I start the engine and followed by light paved slope leading into the stretch of land where bamboo orchids, the wind, seem to beckon to those who arrive or depart. The ipod, the cello of Yo-Yo Ma in harmony with nature, in the interpretation of "The Swan from Carnival of the Animals. Before we turn right into the stretch that would leave us in BR 101, a mixed flock landed on the edge of road. O meu neto tem apenas seis anos. Estive com ele na Reserva Natural Vale entre 20 e 24 de julho passado. As experiências vividas por ele jamais o abandonarão. Resolvi publicar este vídeo para que ele possa, quando quiser, avivar o brilho, as cores e os sons guardados na memória.  Vez por outra eu me recordo de um artigo publicado em uma revista, cujo assunto era a viagem de barco a antártica que o Amyr Klink fizera com a mulher e as filhas pequenas. No topo da página, em letras garrafais: "QUE DISNEYLANDIA QUE NADA!!!". É isso aí. Há um punhado coisas boas pra fazer com a garotada. Click!!! 

My grandson is only six years. I was with him in the Valley Nature Reserve between 20 and 24 July last. The experiences that he would never abandon. I decided to post this video so that it can, at will, revive the brightness, colors and sounds stored in memory. From time to time I recall an article published in a magazine, whose subject was the Antarctic boat trip that Amyr Klink had with his wife and young daughters. Tenho de voltar ao Mutum de bico vermelho. 

A lembrança de ter feito um pequeno vídeo do encontro que relatei no post de 21 de setembro estava rodava sem parar no labirinto da minha cabeça. Entretanto, não conseguia atinar com o destino que dera àquele arquivo. Pois bem,  nesta manhã a lembrança conseguiu sair do labirinto e me trouxe a informação. Quando em viagem costumo descarregar as imagens do dia no laptop que levo comigo e depois para um HD externo específico. Bingo! Para minha surpresa, descobri que havia feito umas fotos originadas a partir do vídeo, que agora posso publicar. Click!!!

The memory of having done a short video of the meeting that reported in the post September 21 was ran nonstop in the labyrinth of my head. However, I could not fathom the fate that had given that file. Well, this morning the memory managed to get out of the maze and brought me the information. When traveling I usually download the images of the day on the laptop that I carry with me and then to a specific external HD. Bingo! Eram duas horas da tarde do dia 23 quando cruzei novamente o portão da área restrita e, daquela vez, fui mais adiante, chegando até a torre de observação. Exceto por esse pequeno bando de tiribas grandes que pousaram fazendo alegre estardalhaço, a mata estava em silêncio. A luz contrária e a distância não me favoreceram. Essa belíssima ave está ameaçada de extinção pela destruição de seu habitat. Encontrar este pequeno bando representa uma alegria, mesmo em adversas condiçoes de luz, o que impossibilitou revelar toda a sua magnífica beleza. It was two o'clock in the afternoon of 23 when again crossed the gate of the restricted area and, this time, I went further, reaching the observation tower. Except for this small band of great tiribas that landed making merry fanfare, the forest was silent. The counter light and the distance did not favor me. This beautiful bird is endangered by the destruction of their habitat. Find this little band is a joy, even in adverse light conditions, making it impossible to reveal all its magnificent beauty. Reencontrei as tiribas de orelha branca nos arredores do hotel. Desta vez, embora a luz também não favorecessem, a proximidade a elas permitiu uma maior nitidez, mas nada que faça justiça a beleza deste pássaro. Click!!!

Há tempos que eu procurava por este pássaro, sem no entanto lograr exito. Entrei na área restrita resolvido a avançar poucos quilometros além do portão de acesso e retornar em seguida. Assim foi feito. No terceiro cruzamento com a estrada flamengo, resolvi manobrar e tomar o caminho de volta. Como sempre, engatei a primeira marcha e deixei que a pickup avançasse na velocidade ditada pelo giro do motor em marcha lenta. De repente, vi um pequeno vulto pousar a não mais de dois metros da margem. Parei a pickup e desliguei o motor. Não ousei abrir a porta. O zoom da lente confirmou o que eu suspeitava: era o pássaro que eu procurava. Depois das primeiras imagens e da parte inicial do vídeo, resolvi buscar o tripé que estava na caçamba. Abri a porta sem alarde e o protagonista continuava no mesmo lugar. Fui até a caçamba, peguei o tripé e instalei a câmera sobre ele. Me posicionei junto à porta do motorista para fazer novas fotos e um novo vídeo, que deixei rolando até que batesse suas asas. Obrigado Barbudo rajado. No final daquele dia voltei àquela estrada flamengo na companhia de minha esposa, de minha filha e do meu neto. Eles viram mutuns e macucos e ouviram os sons do fim de um dia e do começo de uma noite no coração da floresta. Para o meu neto, a lembrança de tudo que viu e ouviu estará gravada em sua memória como momentos bons e inesquecíveis. Ele vive me pedindo para voltarmos até lá. Nós voltaremos. Click! 

There were times that I was looking for this bird, without achieving success. I entered the restricted area determined to advance a few kilometers beyond the access gate and return then. This was done. In the third intersection with Flemish road, I decided to maneuver and take the way back. As always, I hitched to first gear and let the pickup to move forward at the speed dictated by the engine turning at idle. Suddenly, I saw a small figure to land no more than two meters from the shore. I stopped the truck and turned off the engine. I did not dare open the door. The zoom lens has confirmed what I suspected: it was the bird I was looking for. After the first images and initial part of the video, I decided to seek the tripod that was in the bucket. I opened the door quietly and the protagonist was still there. I went to the bucket, grabbed the tripod and the camera installed on it. I positioned myself next to the driver's door to new photos and a new video, I left rolling until it beat its wings. Thank you Crescent-chested Puffbird. Later that day I returned to that Flemish road in the company of my wife, my daughter and my grandson. They saw curassows and macucos and heard the sounds of the end of a day and the beginning of a night in the heart of the forest. For my grandson, the memory of all who saw and heard will be in your memory as good and unforgettable moments. Lives asking me to go back there. We return. Click!
