Estávamos sem nosso guia desde que findara o dia 16. Mal o dia 17 amanheceu e começamos a aproveitar o entorno do hotel. Como já dito antes, nosso chalé era vizinho de uma frondosa fruteira que servia de comedouro aos pássaros da redondeza. Clique!!!
We were without our guide since it had ended the day 16. As soon as the day dawned and 17 begin to enjoy the surroundings of the hotel. As I said before, our cottage was near a lush fruit bowl that served as a feeder to the vicinity of the birds. Click!!!

Não sou um expert em matérias ornitológicas. Entretanto, há os que dizem que fotografar este pássaro em outras paragens que não as amazônicas é um feito notável. Obviamente que considero a sorte um fator de peso mas, neste caso específico, não da para contar só com ela. É preciso estar acompanhado de um guia experiente e que conheça muito bem as matas da Reserva Natural Vale. O Justiniano Magnago(Cel 55 27 99960-7161) é uma dessas pessoas e, posso garantir, a conhece muitíssimo bem. Como ele próprio diz: "tenho o mapa da reserva desenhado dentro da minha cabeça". Obvio que o pássaro pode aparecer em muitos lugares, mas na ocasião em que lá estivemos à sua procura, ele vinha utilizando como poleiro de caça este galho onde foi fotografado. São 23 mil hectares de mata densa, o que, convenhamos, não é pouca coisa. Esperemos que toda essa beleza que representa a Reserva Natural Vale permaneça intacta, possibilitando a esta e a outras espécies se reproduzirem livremente. Obrigado Justiniano!!! Clique!!!
I'm not an expert on ornithological matters. However, there are those who say that this bird shooting in other places than the Amazon is a remarkable achievement. Obviously I consider the luck a major factor but in this particular case, not only to tell her. It must be accompanied by an experienced guide and knows very well the forests of the Reserva Natural Vale. The Justiniano Magnago(Cel 55 27 99960-7161) is one of those people, and I can assure you, knows very well. As he himself says, "I have the reserve drawn map inside my head." Depois de almoçarmos e de um pequeno descanso, fizemos novo ingresso na área restrita da reserva natural vale. No ano passado, exatamente no mesmo local, havia escutado intensa vocalização deste pica pau, sem que o mesmo se mostrasse para nós. Desta vez foi diferente, embora tenha mantido uma distância razoável, resultando em registros não muito satisfatórios. Paciência, pois novas oportunidades sempre acontecem. Esperar a noite cair no interior da mata para tentar surpreender um pássaro amazônico que vinha ocorrendo na reserva era o nosso objetivo maior daquele dia. O sucesso, ou o fracasso desta empreitada vou revelar no próximo post. Clique!!!
After having lunch and a short rest, we made new entry into the restricted area of natural worth booking. Last year, exactly the same place, had heard intense vocalization of this woodpecker, without the same show for us. This time was different, while keeping a reasonable distance, resulting in not very satisfactory records. Patience, because new opportunities always happen. Expect night falls inside the forest to try to surprise an Amazonian bird that had been occurring in the reserve was our biggest goal that day. Essas lindas tiribas estavam se alimentando na frondosa fruteira que fica ao lado de nosso chalé. Haviamos voltado da área de floresta restrita da reserva praticamente com as mãos abanando e, óbvio, aproveitei para fotografar essas beldades. Clique!!!
These beautiful Parakeet were feeding on leafy fruit bowl that is next to our cottage. We had come back from the restricted forest area of the reserve virtually empty-handed and obvious, I used to shoot these beauties. Click!!!

Tico tico rei cinza(Lanio pileatus) Pileated Finch
A cerca de 50 metros da cancela que da acesso à reserva natural vale, paramos para tentar fotografar um casal de pássaros que havia sido observado pelo Justiniano. Dois cajueiros situados na margem da trilha eram a referência de onde deviamos parar e assim fizemos. Fizemos várias fotos, mas em nenhum momento o topete vermelho que magnificamente coroa a sua cabeça foi mostrado. Era meu primeiro encontro com a espécie. Teria de ter paciência para uma oportunidade melhor. Clique!!!

At about 50 meters from the gate which gives access to the nature reserve valley, we stopped to try to shoot a couple of birds that had been observed by Justinian. Two cashew trees located on the track margin were the reference of where we should stop and so we did. We made several pictures, but in no time the red topknot that magnificently crown his head was shown. It was my first encounter with the species. I would have to have patience for a better opportunity. Click!!!

Ariramba de cauda ruiva(Galbula ruficauda) Rufous-tailed Jacamar
Depois de fotografar o surucuá, retomamos o caminho de volta. A seca era visível. O nosso amigo e guia, Justiniano, que muito conhece aquelas matas, nos mostrou um trecho onde a estrada corta uma região alagada. Verificamos que estava praticamente seca e, sob as pequenas e intermitentes pontes não se notava qualquer curso de água a correr. Paramos em uma dessas pontes para fotografar este casal de arirambas. Entramos no carro e rodamos cerca de uma hora e meia até chegar ao hotel. Poucas fotos e, em contrapartida, muita fome. Fotografar pássaros requer persistência e muita paciência. Clique!!!
After photographing the trogon, we resumed the way back. The dry was visible. Our friend and guide, Justinian, who really knows those woods, showed us a stretch where the road cuts through a flooded area. We found that was almost dry and in small and intermittent bridges not noticed any watercourse running. We stopped at one of these bridges to shoot this double arirambas. We got into the car and we drove about an hour and a half to reach the hotel. Few photos and, in contrast, very hungry. Photographing birds requires persistence and patience. Click!!!

We went to one of the ends of the Valley Nature Reserve to search for particular bird. Nothing done. I found this trogon and did not miss the trip. Click!!!

Há muito que esperava fazer um registro mais condizente com a importância desta espécie de papagaio, cuja classificação dada pela IUCN é "Em Perigo". Já o encontrei na borda do parque do descobrimento e na própria reserva natural vale, mas sempre manteve uma distância desfavorável ao alcance da minha lente. Muito embora ainda tenha a expectativa de um dia estar a poucos metros desta maravilha, dou-me por satisfeito, por ora. Clique!!!
